The Club
Warwick University Rugby League is one of the fastest growing and most successful sports teams on Campus.
Last season we won the league winning every home match, scoring the most tries and emerging with a 290 goal difference. This year we have had the top try scorers and best defence in the league. In addition, we won the annual varsity match against Coventry University for the second year in a row achieving “Team of Varsity” along the way destroyinng a Coventry team that were massive favourites from the league above.
The Squad
From a budding social member to a dedicated athlete, there is a place for everyone at WURL. Many Old Boys maintain the friendships made in their time at the club well beyond their university years, and the Old Boys event is always one of the biggest annual social events.
Our sporting success combined with our strong social presence at the University guarantees that WURL is the place for you.
The Social Side
At WURL we frequently get together to participate in social events. These are wide ranging as they are exciting and often include mixed events with the women's Aerobics society. Examples of mixed events include 'Aerugbics Take Me Out' - with all proceeds going to charity, and a three-legged bar crawl.
Aside from these, every Wednesday we meet in Leamington Spa's exotic Irish pub Murphy's to circle before heading to finish the night at POP!.
The club also organises trips to international games and an annual mystery-tour. Previous mystery-tour visits include Barcelona, Prague and Belgrade.
The Coach
Our coach, Troy Perkins has been with the club for over 10 years. An ex-Australian international, he also coaches other clubs, including Hemel Stags. He is an integral member of the club and a great character to be in the squad. He even features in the papers!
